Nighttime Telescope Observation of Moon and Saturn, Spring 2011

On the evening of June 7, 2011, Mrs. Weidenhammer's Astronomy classes enjoyed a night telescope observation session provided by Gary DeLeo. The moon and Saturn were viewed through telescopes set up in the athletic-wing parking lot. Here are some photos of that event.

It was a beautiful evening. The sun had just set when Dr. DeLeo and Mrs. Weidenhammer arrived to set up the telescopes. The photo on the left shows how the moon appeared that evening. The photo was taken with a digital camera, without using the telescope. Even so, you can still see craters along the terminator. |

| Mrs. Weidenhammer was the first to look through the SCT telescope when aimed at the moon. Perhaps she wanted to make sure looking through the telescope was safe before allowing students to look. The telescope on the far right is a Newtonian reflector. |

| Photos of the observation session are shown on the left and below. Some parents were also present and enjoying the view, some even bringing young children. The sky was still blue when we started... |

| Mrs. Weidenhammer and some students attempted to identify constellations. However, the bright parking-lot lights made this very difficult. |

We had a wonderful evening looking at the Moon and Saturn!
