Fossils, Rocks, and Dinosaurs
Asa Packer Elementary School, Academic Year 2010-2011
Grade K
Dr. DeLeo came back into our classroom for another adventure in science! We already knew that there were dinosaurs and other animals on the Earth a long time ago that are no longer around today. Many of us even knew what the word “extinct” means. It means that those plants or animals no longer live today - they all died.
Dr. DeLeo set up special magnifying glasses in the room. They make things look real big when you look through them. Dr. DeLeo tried to scare us by looking at us through one of the magnifiers, but we don't scare that easily! We used the magnifiers to look at the fossils, rocks, and animals bones that Dr. DeLeo brought in. When plants and animals that lived a long time ago die, they sometimes become hard like rock. These are called fossils.

Dr. DeLeo visited each of the Kindergarten classrooms. The pictures below show Mrs. Gawlik's AM Kindergarten class first, then Mrs. Gribbins's AM Kindergarten, and finally Mrs. Gribbins's PM Kindergarten.

These are pictures from Mrs. Gawlik's AM Kindergarten class. On the right, you can see some of us looking at fossils and rocks through the magnifiers that Dr. DeLeo brought.
Our teacher, Mrs. Gawlik, had fun looking through the magnifiers at the fossils and rocks as well. She was very interested!
The picture just to the right shows one of us examining the tooth from a shark! And, one of us is looking at a piece of "fool's gold" on the far right.
Here are more pictures of us looking at fossils and rocks!

The picture just to the right shows one of us examining the tooth from a shark! Notice the shark shirt! And, one of us is looking at a sea shell fossil on the far right.
Our Principal, Mr. Horvath, came to our classroom to examine the fossils. There is a picture of him on the far left. To the left and below are more pictures of us looking at fossils and rocks!

If you click the play button on the picture on the left, you will see a VIDEO of us studying fossils and rocks.

We had a wonderful time looking at fossils and rocks. We love science!
